Baby Weight The Complete Guide to Prenatal and Postpartum Fitness Micky Marie Morrison 9780615522586 Books Reviews
- This book is not made for . There were a few typos where text was missing and at another location a chunk of text was inserted out of nowhere and being repeated a few pages later. The training program suggestion chart (three pictures) at the very end of the book is literally impossible to see as the resolution is too poor. The intermediate program includes some text boxes - unfortunately I have absolutely no clue what I am supposed to do there as the text is too small/bad resolution. So if you buy the edition, regard it as you've got a collection of exercises but not really a step-by-step program to follow. So not entirely worthless - but not really user friendly either.
- Baby Weight is an easy to follow guide to prenatal and postpartum fitness. Pregnant with my first child i was nervous on how it would impact on my body long term, in regards to weight, fitness and core strength. Nervous after reading far too many online pregnancy forums and unable to afford a trainer, i purchased Baby Weight and was pleased by how practical and easy to follow it was.
It covers off on both diet and exercise in a clear manner that allowed me to easily follow it without having to 'diet' or do exercises that my body wasn't capable of while pregnant. It was easy to do the exercises in daggy clothes, in the comfort of my home, at times that worked for me.
The exercise descriptions and images in the book ensured that i was doing the exercises correctly and after a while i only had to review the book briefly to make sure i was following the exercise plan correctly. However, i would have loved an exercise DVD to follow as well, for that extra motivation, as the onus is up to you to make sure you do these exercises during your pregnancy without a trainer or expensive gym fees to motivate you.
I am sure that by following Baby Weight It assisted me in having a completely stress free pregnancy, a natural child birth and was back to my pre-pregnancy body weight within 6 weeks of having my baby. I will definitely use this resource again if I'm lucky enough to have more children - I have been participating in the Baby Weight Prenatal Fitness Program for the last 12 weeks of my pregnancy and I have to admit I LOVE IT. I am a marathoner and core strength is very important to me. When I found out I was pregnant, I was concerned about what type of exercises I would do especially for my core. While on facebook, I came across the fan page for BABY WEIGHT THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO PRENATAL AND POSTNATAL FITNESS.I decided to try the book out, and it was the best health purchase I made during this preganancy. I started in my second trimester and with just four weeks left to delivery, I am still going strong. The exercises are easy and gentle enough for beginners as well as challenging enough for avid exercisers (the exercises are labeled for level). Flow sequences are given as well as photo demonstrations of the exercises so you dont have to guess what to do. Also, all of the mamas featured in the book are clearly pregnant and the postpartum women have their babies. This feels good to see women like me, so I dont have unrealistic expectations of my body during such a sensitive time. The exercises are familiar and many were ones that I did before pregnancy, so I dont feel like I am missing a major part of my previous core program. I have not had severe back pains like with my two previous pregnancies and my core feels nice and strong. While working out, I feel like I am bonding with my daughter. The best part about this workout, the book is for postnatal as well. I am confident that my abs will be back in no time. I cant wait until my daughter and I can workout together. I definately recommend this book.
- This book gives great advice on how to eat and exercise during pregnancy. It's very practical advice that I could easily relate to. The author is a physical therapist and definitely knows her stuff. The exercise descriptions are thorough and the photos of real moms are fabulous. I LOVE that there are videos now on BabyWeight.Tv because that was the only thing missing before. But having the book with the videos has been great for all the info and more detailed description. I am buying one now for my best friend who is pregnant, so,yes, I recommend!
- I gave this book to my sister and she just loved it!
It is easy to do the exercises and is very baby interactive wich is priority at this time of mom's life! - Very helpful! Written by a physical therapist who knows her stuff. Her videos are great too.
- I purchased 'Baby Weight' with the hopes of gaining insight that could not be found on the internet or other sources. I was so disappointed that I donated the book shortly after I received it. If you are an active, intelligent person with good eating habits there is no additional information you will gain from this book. Yoga moves and exercises are way too basic and repetitive for any individual who works-out regularly.
Good luck and happy pregnancy! - I have told so many pregnant women about the benefit of this book. I was fortunate to be in a conference in NYC at ACOG and I met Mickey Marie Morrison. She was amazing. She is a physical therapist who gives pregnant women the option to get healthier while they are pregnant (without having multiple appointments).
Low back pain is so common in pregnancy. I truly believe that if pregnant women used this book (or use the videos that Mickey produced), that they would have less back pain in pregnancy. They would gain less weight. It would strengthen their core-- which could help in labor. I know that everybody is busy and it's hard to fit one more thing to do, but it can make such a difference during the pregnancy and postpartum.
